Le but
On Friday, April 24, 1942, at 6 p.m., when the prisoners had returned from work, a general rally was called by the Germans, all the French prisoners of the Ludwigsburg camp were gathered together to make an individual appeal. The aim was for the Germans to identify possible escapees. During this control, they noticed that a prisoner had escaped, my father wrote in his notebook that he had been away for a long time without the Germans noticing anything, probably they were so convinced of the inviolability of their camp? But this gathering had an unexpected effect, the Germans found a prisoner they had supposedly released in December 1941 and who was still there five months later! Consternation! In fact, another prisoner had to take his place to return to France, with the consent of the prisoner present or had he fraudulently taken his place? My father and the other prisoners never knew it. The Germans did not appreciate this misunderstanding at all and instead of questioning themselves because of their negligence or pretense, they tightened the screws a little more on the prisoners, and my father wrote: "Since that day the regime is more severe, but the Frenchman takes everything for a joke.........I think it's the best method". The French spirit!
